Privacy
Scannr by design.
I'll be specific about what Scannr does and doesn't do with your data, because vague privacy claims are the norm and they're worth nothing.
What Scannr does not collect or send
Scannr is a static web application. It has no backend server. When you open scannr.net, your browser downloads the app — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, fonts, icons — and that's the last network activity that happens unless you go look something up.
When you scan a document:
- The image stays in your browser's memory.
- Perspective correction, color enhancement, and PDF generation all run inside your browser, on your device.
- Nothing is uploaded. No image data, no metadata, no analytics about your scan.
- No copy is created on any server.
- No cookies are set in connection with your documents.
You can verify this yourself. Open your browser's developer tools (right-click → Inspect, then the Network tab) and scan a document. You will see no requests carrying your image data. Not to scannr.net, not to anywhere.
What's stored locally
Scannr uses your browser's localStorage to remember your interface preferences — your light/dark theme, your last-used enhancement filter, and your export defaults (page size and JPEG quality). That's all. No document content, no scan history, no usage data.
A Service Worker caches the app itself so Scannr works offline. The cache contains the app code — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, fonts. It does not contain your scans.
About analytics
Scannr does not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Plausible, or any third-party analytics or tracking script. There is no tracking code in the page.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare's standard request logs apply to that hosting layer — Cloudflare sees that someone requested scannr.net, including the visitor's IP address as part of normal web hosting. This is the same as any website you visit. Cloudflare's privacy practices are documented at cloudflare.com.
The iOS app
The iPhone version of Scannr has its own privacy policy. That app is also designed so your scans never leave your device — see the App Store listing for details.
Changes
If I change anything that affects what data is collected, I'll update this page and the date below. There's no email list to notify.
